Ronald Clare Greenland, 55, who was sentenced to a term of between 40 years and life in prison for attempting to stab a police officer who intervened as he tried to steal rims from a Mount Vernon dealership has filed court papers claiming that state and county officials conspired to defame him and falsely convict him by saying he entered the country illegally, according to a report by lohud on Thursday.

"This was/ a very strategic and tactical advance move to smear, defame and corrupt plaintiff('s) image, corrupt the mind of potential jurors from being fair and impartial, cause in actually although each jurors are vetted," the lawsuit states. "Human nature takes over causing them to inquire, inquire into whom they are accountable for while being tried."

According to Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., at approximately 2:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016, a Westchester County police officer was conducting an inspection of the dealership when he noticed a “suspicious vehicle” in the parking lot.

The officer approached the Honda Odyssey minivan as it left the property, and Greenland failed to pull over, continuing onto Knowlton Avenue before fleeing on foot. Greenland was chased through multiple backyards before he was caught on Dickson Lane in Bedford.

During the struggle between the two men, Greenland struck the arresting officer multiple times and attempted to stab him before he was subdued and taken into custody.

Greenland was found guilty of individual counts of attempted murder, attempted assault, attempted aggravated assault upon a police officer, second-degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance last year.

Police said that Greenland has a lengthy criminal history and has twice been deported to his native Jamaica for his role in a car theft ring. Greenland has been held at the Westchester County Jail since his arrest. He currently has an immigration detainer on him.
